Why Work With Me?

  • Never missed a deadline in more than a decade in business
  • Truly bilingual: educated in Austria and the US
  • Speak and write on topics related to global technical communication

I translate German technical and business documents into polished English appropriate for a specific audience, and write and edit technical content for global audiences. In more than a decade in business I have never missed a deadline. You can rely on me!

My translation projects have involved computer documentation, technical manuals, quality assurance guides and contracts, among others. Many people find such texts sleep-inducing. But I enjoy explaining how things work or how to resolve errors in a program. After specializing in this field for the past decade, I have probably encountered a document similar to yours at some point. This means I need less research and can turn your project around faster.

Originally from Austria and working on a number of Swiss texts, I am familiar with these less-common varieties of German, both of which differ substantially from the German spoken in the Federal Republic of Germany. Since I understand the special linguistic features and vocabulary of these variants, I can provide a more accurate translation.

As a working translator, I've never stopped learning. Attending training sessions and conferences keeps me up to date on new developments in the field. To that end, I also participate in a number of professional organizations, such as the American Translators Association, the Society for Technical Communication, the New York Circle of Translators, ProZ and the National Writers Union. Besides learning from others, I also believe in passing my knowledge on. I write a blog, On Language and Translation, and speak at conferences. Finally, I exchange information with other business people through professional networks, such as LinkedIn, Xing and ProZ.

You can rely on:

... having the translation in hand when you need it - if not sooner.

I translate German technical and business documents into polished English, and write and edit technical content for global audiences. In more than a decade in business I have never missed a deadline.

... an accurate representation of your text in natural, idiomatic English.

With my formal education split between Austria and the US, I am comfortable with both German and English technical and business language. Before I translated technical documents, I wrote software documentation, and maintained computers and networks. As a senior member of the Society for Technical Communication I regularly interact with technical writers and designers. This means I truly understand your content and am familiar with the latest developments in US technical communication.

... easy readability of your edited documents.

In my prior career as director of IT for a non-profit organization, I was also responsible for training young women in basic computer skills. I wrote my own materials for this purpose, learning in the process how to write for readers with limited literacy and/or English skills. During the last few years I have spoken about writing for global audiences at several events, including WritersUA West in Palm Springs, Calif., the tekom Jahrestagung in Wiesbaden, Germany, and the STC Summit in Chicago.
